faq

Photography from eye level is always a great asset.  It’s the natural position that is expected from a viewer. If you have a property, a building, or whatever else you have to show off, viewers will expect an “eye-level” image so they can place themselves in that space.

I don’t only work in what’s expected, the power that a different perspective can have on a viewer by giving them a birds-eye-view of the property can really show off everything there is to offer.

Maybe a house looks ok with the front yard, maybe the backyard looks good too, but giving your client an overall view of the property can tie it all together, and there’s no better way of doing that than actually showing them the entire property.

*If you have your own drone, you’re more than welcome to put it up in the air to get photos and videos for yourself!  Believe me, it’s a ton of fun just to fly a drone around (safely!).  That’s why I got into this business in the first place!

However, if you want to fly a drone for any professional or commercial reasons (anything that’s going to directly or indirectly make you money) you’ll need to be licensed by the FAA to fly a sUAS (Small Unmanned Aircraft System a.k.a. a “Drone)

First of all, it’s the law! If you’re going to fly a drone for any commercial purposes, you’ll need to be licensed to keep everyone safe.  Most businesses don’t want what they’re doing to be against the law, so they hire licensed professionals (like myself) to make sure everything is done properly.

There are airspace rules that need to be followed, permissions in some situations that need to be secured before flying, and a ton of other safety rules and procedures to make sure everyone in the air and on the ground stay safe!

I’d be happy to talk with you on getting a license through the FAA if that’s something you are interested in.

I am a Certified Remote Pilot through the FAA.  I took my Part 107 sUAS test and passed, and have since passed my recurrency exam.  (An exam that I must take every 24 months to retain my license)

If required, I can provide proof of currency and my Remote Pilot’s license.

The FAA Website is a great place to get information about drones and drone pilot certificates.

FAA Drone Zone

Unfortunately, there are some places where it’s either impossible to fly a drone, or requires very strict permissions to fly.  Some examples are near and around airports, near military installments, and around government buildings.  Washington DC often has a very strict No Fly Zone surrounding it, and even just putting the drone up a couple of feet would be in violation.

That being said, the majority of space around the country is open to flying a drone, and if it isn’t easily available, there are simple ways that we can get permission. I will go over all of this information once we start working together and we’ll determine if the area we need to fly in is accessible or if there would be any complications.
